Much like its premiere episode, Butterknife's narrative pacing is still a bit off in episode two, "Sicilian Style." A cameo by Anthony Baker--in our estimation, among the best indie actors of his generation--adds a much too short-lived flare of the hysterical to the second act, Bronstein playing in the interaction with pitch-perfect comic chemistry, filmmaker Frank V. Ross--likewise, in our estimation, among the best indie directors of his generation--standing quietly in the background. Closing scene between the duo Bronsteins, however tender, feels unearned and fails to make comprehensible its own importance. While we'd love to be in love with the love story, we found ourselves focused rather on Paul Grimstad's awesome little ditty of a score.
